Olympic Archery Training

Archery: For all the Olympic-style archers out there.?

For all the people that do archery through olympic regulations, what do you think it takes to be a good archer?

It's definitely more mental, I'd say it's 80% mental and 20% physical. Good archers are able to focus on the current shot and tune everything else out. This is more of a requirement today, as the archery crowd at tournaments have changed, they've become more rowdy and distracting.

When you're just beginning, however, the challenge will be mostly physical. Training outside archery is a must. Train with light weights at high reps, you want to train for strength and endurance, not bulk. I find that push ups help a lot, it strengthens the tricep, helps a great deal with bow arm stability. Train your lats, pull ups, rowing exercise, and delts, arm raises, military press.

Than cardio to strengthen the core and general endurance. Without strong core muscles, you won't be able to stand still in the wind.

Can I train to be an Olympic Archer?

I have been doing archery at weekends for about a year, I am 17, I want to make a go of gettin into the olympics, I am quite good.
